A Special Visit

On the 3rd of January 2024, one of our trustees, Peter Hayman and his wife, our secretary, Christine, whilst on a visit to Barbados, were invited to visit Ena Collymore Woodstock

Ena served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during WWII and is now in her 107th year.

Peter and Christine presented Ena with a photographic collage of the female statue that will form part of our Caribbean Monument. It seemed very appropriate as the statue is dressed in the uniform that Ena would have worn during her service in the British Army.

Originally from Jamaica, Ena now lives in Barbados with one of her daughters and it was a very great honour and privilege for Christine and Peter to have been given the opportunity to meet this inspirational lady, who is the oldest female British veteran still living.

In fact, she may be the oldest British veteran still alive.
